About the ALARM-D201MC-WE
The ALARM-D201MC-WE is a wireless door and window contact for the HiLook alarm range. It is the simplest sensor in the system and often the most useful, because it tells you the moment a door or window is opened rather than waiting until somebody is already inside and moving around.
It comes in two parts. The larger part holds the electronics and the battery and fixes to the frame, and the small magnet fixes to the door or window itself so the two sit alongside each other when it is closed. Open the door and the two separate, and the panel knows about it immediately. It will trigger with a gap of up to 25 mm between the two halves, which gives you sensible tolerance on a door that has dropped slightly or a window frame that is not perfectly square.
Because it reacts at the point of entry rather than after it, a contact on the front and back doors is usually the first thing worth adding to any system. Beyond that, the obvious places are patio doors, ground floor windows, a garage side door, or an internal door onto a room you want to keep an eye on, a home office or a stockroom for example.
It also reports the temperature back to the panel, so you can see how cold a room or an outbuilding is getting, which is handy for spotting a heating failure or a freezing risk in a garage over winter.
A single AA battery runs it for around two years, and it warns you well before it goes flat. Fitting takes a few minutes with no wiring at all, and the slim two part design sits discreetly on most frames without looking like security equipment.
