About the ALARM-S201-E-WE-BLUE
The ALARM-S201-E-WE-BLUE is the wireless external sounder for the HiLook alarm range, the box that goes on the outside wall of your property with a blue flashing strobe. It does two jobs, and the less obvious one is arguably the more valuable. When the alarm goes off it makes a great deal of noise, 110 dB worth, and flashes to draw attention to which building is in trouble. But for most of its life it simply sits there being seen, and a visible siren box on a front elevation is one of the cheapest and most effective deterrents you can fit. Most opportunist break-ins are decided from the pavement, and a house with an obvious alarm is a house that gets walked past.
Because it is wireless, there is no cable to run from the panel out through an external wall, which is the part of fitting an external siren that normally puts people off. It talks to the panel on the 868 MHz band over a two-way link, so the panel knows the sounder is still there and working rather than just firing signals into the void and hoping. Range is up to 1.6 km in the open, so anywhere on a normal property is comfortably within reach. The signal hops between frequencies to resist jamming and is encrypted with AES-128.
It can distinguish between three different alarm sounds, for fire, panic and intrusion, so anyone within earshot has some idea what they are responding to rather than hearing one generic wail. The tone and behaviour are configurable remotely through the app, so you do not need a ladder to change how it sounds.
Being an outdoor device it is built for the job. The IP65 rated PC and ABS housing handles rain and dust, and it operates from -20 °C to 60 °C, which is well outside anything a UK winter or a south facing wall in August will produce. It is tamper protected on both the front cover and the rear panel, so prising the lid off or levering the whole unit away from the wall triggers the alarm, which closes the obvious attack on a siren box.
Power is the neat part. It runs from batteries by default, giving up to three years of standby life, which Hikvision rate on the basis of it being triggered once a fortnight and sounding for 90 seconds each time. That is a realistic duty cycle including test activations. If you would rather not think about batteries at all, it can also be run from a 12 V DC supply where a cable is available.
The HiLook control panel supports up to four wireless sounders, so you can fit this one on the front elevation where it will be seen, and add another at the back or inside if you want the noise where it will be heard as well as seen.
