The DS-2CD2583G2-IS features Hikvision's AcuSense technology, which uses deep learning algorithms to classify detected targets as either human or vehicle. This significantly reduces false alarms triggered by environmental factors such as animals, shadows, and foliage, allowing the camera to focus notification and recording events on the activity that matters most. The smart IR functionality adjusts intensity automatically to prevent over-exposure at close range and maintain consistent image quality as subjects move through the scene. Minimum illumination of 0.005 Lux in colour mode and 0 Lux in B/W mode with IR active means this camera performs reliably in very low light conditions.
Wide Dynamic Range performance is rated at 120 dB, allowing the camera to handle challenging lighting situations such as bright windows behind a subject, or high-contrast entrances and exits, without losing detail in either the highlights or shadows. Combined with BLC, HLC, and 3D DNR image enhancement, the DS-2CD2583G2-IS maintains clean, usable footage across a wide range of lighting environments.
Video compression supports H.265+, H.265, H.264+, and H.264 on the main stream, with MJPEG available on the sub-stream. The efficient H.265+ codec significantly reduces storage and bandwidth requirements compared to older compression standards, an important consideration when deploying multiple 4K cameras across a single NVR. Bit rate is adjustable from 32 Kbps up to 16 Mbps, with both CBR and VBR control modes available. Triple streaming is supported, allowing simultaneous high-resolution recording alongside lower-resolution streams for live view or remote access.
The -IS suffix denotes the inclusion of audio and alarm interfaces. The camera features a built-in microphone as standard, plus a dedicated line-in and line-out terminal block for external audio devices, supporting multiple audio compression formats including G.711, G.726, MP3, and AAC-LC. The alarm interface provides 1 input and 1 output (max. 12 VDC, 20 mA), enabling integration with external detection devices or relay-triggered outputs such as door locks, sirens, or lighting systems.
On-board storage is supported via a built-in microSD card slot, accepting cards up to 512 GB, providing local recording resilience in the event of network failure.
