About the VI-K43P
The HiLook VI-K43P is a complete IP video intercom kit that gives a property a proper door entry system without the cost or complexity of a full multi-tenant setup. Everything needed for a single entrance is in the box: the VI-V400W outdoor door station, the VI-H460W 7-inch indoor touch screen monitor, and two power supplies. It is aimed squarely at single dwellings, gated driveways, small offices, workshops and units where somebody needs to see who is at the door, speak to them and release the gate or lock, whether they are sat in the kitchen or three hundred miles away.
At the entrance, the VI-V400W is a single button villa door station built around a 2MP HD camera with a 131° horizontal and 78° vertical field of view. That wide angle matters in practice: a caller standing close to the panel is still fully in frame, and so is anyone standing back from it, which is exactly the behaviour you want when a delivery driver leaves a parcel and walks off. A 120 dB wide dynamic range keeps faces usable when the sun is directly behind a visitor or when the door sits in deep shade against a bright driveway, and built in IR illumination covers up to 3 m for after dark calls. Video is delivered at 1920 x 1080p on the main stream with a 640 x 480p sub stream for lower bandwidth viewing, encoded in H.264. Motion detection is supported, so the door station can flag activity at the entrance rather than only reacting when somebody presses the button.
Audio is handled by a built in omnidirectional microphone and loudspeaker with noise suppression and echo cancellation, which is what makes a conversation through a door panel actually intelligible rather than a wall of wind noise and feedback. The housing is rated IP65 and rated for operation from -40 °C to 55 °C, so a north facing wall in a hard winter is not a concern. Only a single physical call button is fitted, which keeps the panel clean and keeps visitors from guessing which button to press.
Indoors, the VI-H460W is a 7-inch colour TFT capacitive touch screen running at 1024 x 600. It answers calls, shows live video from the door station, unlocks the door and stores messages and captured images to a TF card of up to 128 GB. It holds a notice capacity of 200 and supports up to 16 linked indoor extensions, so a larger property can add monitors on other floors later without changing the head end. It also carries 8 alarm inputs and 2 alarm outputs, so you can connect a PIR, a door contact or a panic button and use the monitor as a simple alarm point as well. Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n is built in alongside the wired RJ-45 port, useful where a cable run to the monitor position is awkward.
Wiring is straightforward. Both units accept IEEE802.3af standard PoE over a single Cat5e or Cat6 run, so a switch with PoE can power the whole system, and the two supplied 12 VDC power supplies are there for installs where PoE is not available. At the door station, a lock control relay rated at 30 VDC 2 A, an exit button input, a door contact input and 4 alarm inputs give the access control side everything it normally needs, and an RS-485 port is present on both units. Remote access is via the Hik-Connect app, so calls can be answered, video viewed and the door released from a phone anywhere with a connection, which for most end users is the single feature that sells the system.
If your door or gate is in an exposed spot with no porch or overhang above it, the optional VI-V400-RS protective shield is worth adding. It is sold separately and keeps rain off the camera and the call button.
