About the VI-V400-RS
The VI-V400-RS is the protective shield for the HiLook VI-V400W IP video door station. It is a simple, inexpensive accessory that does one job well: it keeps driving rain off the front of the panel. Hikvision list it as the optional accessory for the VI-K43P intercom kit, and it ships as standard inside the VI-K46P kit, so it is the correct and intended shield for any install built around the VI-V400W.
Whether you need one comes down to where the door station is going. A panel under a decent porch or a deep reveal is already sheltered and will be fine without it. A panel on an exposed gate post, a flat rendered wall with no overhang, or anything facing the prevailing weather is a different matter. The VI-V400W is IP65 rated and will not be damaged by rain, but that is not really the point. Water running down the face of a panel sits on the camera lens and the microphone port, and a lens with a film of water on it produces a soft, smeared image at exactly the moment you want a clear look at whoever is stood there. Rainwater across the button and the card reading area also makes the panel less pleasant to use day to day. The shield keeps the working face of the unit dry so the camera stays sharp and the audio stays clear.
It also keeps water and grime from collecting around the edges of the panel and the cable entry. Over a few winters that makes a real difference to how clean the panel stays and how often you find yourself wiping it down or resealing around it. For the sake of a few pounds, it is worth having.
The RS suffix follows the same convention used across the Hikvision intercom range, where it denotes a rain shield sized for a specific door station. Shields are not interchangeable between models, so make sure the shield matches the panel. This one is for the VI-V400W and should not be ordered for other door stations in the range.
Fitting is straightforward and adds very little to the install time. The shield mounts around the door station on the same surface, so it is worth deciding whether you are using one before you mark out and drill, rather than adding it as an afterthought.
When to specify one
- Exposed gate posts and pillars with no shelter above the panel
- Flat walls with no overhang, particularly on the weather facing elevation
- Coastal and high ground sites where wind driven rain is the norm rather than the exception
- Any install where the customer expects a long, low maintenance life from the panel
If the door station is going somewhere genuinely sheltered, you can skip it without concern. The VI-V400W is rated for outdoor use on its own.

Installation note
The shield measures 48.63 mm deep against the VI-V400W's own 27 mm, so it adds a little over 20 mm of projection off the wall once fitted. Worth bearing in mind on a narrow gate post or a tight reveal, and worth deciding on before you mark out, since the shield's 149.78 mm x 79.57 mm footprint is larger than the panel it covers.
