The PTZ-N2404I-DE3(G) is HiLook by Hikvision's compact 2-inch network speed dome, pairing a 4 MP 1/2.8" progressive scan CMOS sensor with a 4x optical zoom lens, full pan, tilt and zoom control, and built-in two-way audio, all over a single PoE cable. It is the sensible answer to sites where fixed cameras leave you compromising: a yard, forecourt, car park or open frontage where one static lens either covers the area at useless detail or covers the detail across a fraction of the area. With this camera you get both, panned and zoomed on demand from the NVR, a keyboard or the mobile app, and you can speak to whoever you are looking at.

The motorised lens runs 2.8 mm to 12 mm, giving a horizontal field of view from 99.4° at the wide end down to 32.8° fully zoomed, with a vertical field of view of 51.7° to 18.4°. At 2.8 mm it behaves much like a standard wide-angle fixed dome for general area cover, then pulls in to 12 mm when an operator needs to read a plate, identify a face at the gate or follow someone across a yard. Zoom takes roughly 2 seconds wide to tele, and proportional zoom automatically slows the pan and tilt speed as you zoom in so the joystick stays controllable at the long end rather than flying past the subject.

Two-way audio is one of this camera's strongest cards and the reason it earns its place over a cheaper fixed dome. A built-in microphone picks up sound in a radius of up to 5 m, and a built-in speaker lets an operator talk back live through the Hik-Connect app, the NVR or a connected VMS. That turns the camera from a passive recorder into an active deterrent. A keyholder woken by an intrusion alarm can zoom in, confirm what they are looking at and challenge the person directly from their phone, and most opportunists leave the moment they realise they are being watched and spoken to. On commercial sites it does day work too: directing a delivery driver to the right gate, telling a contractor where to park, warning someone off a loading bay, or answering a visitor at a barrier outside office hours. Being able to intervene before an incident develops is worth considerably more to most customers than the recorded evidence afterwards. Line in and line out connections are also provided if you would rather drive a horn speaker or run a separate microphone on a larger site.

Low-light performance is handled by Hikvision's Powered by DarkFighter technology, rated to 0.005 Lux in colour and 0.001 Lux in black and white at F1.8 with AGC on, and 0 Lux with the IR active. Infrared reaches up to 20 m with Smart IR to hold back the illuminator and prevent over-exposed faces when a subject walks close to the camera. 120 dB true WDR deals with the situations that catch fixed cameras out, headlights at a barrier, a bright shopfront behind a doorway, or low winter sun across a car park. BLC, HLC and 3D DNR round out the image tools.

Mechanically, the dome pans from 0° to 355° and tilts from 0° to 90°, both configurable from 0.1°/s up to a 50°/s preset speed. There are 300 presets available for patrols and guard positions, and power-off memory returns the camera to its last position after a supply interruption, which saves a site visit after a power cut. Smart detection covers line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting, with the camera's deep learning classification focused on distinguishing people and vehicles so alarms trigger on what matters rather than on foliage and headlights.

For the installer, this is a straightforward unit to put up. It runs on PoE (802.3af) at a maximum 11.2 W, so it will sit happily on the PoE ports of a HiLook or Hikvision NVR without a separate supply, or on 12 VDC where you would rather power locally. The housing is aluminium alloy with PC and PC+ABS, rated IP66 and IK10 with TVS 4000V lightning, surge and voltage transient protection, and rated for -20°C to 60°C. It measures Ø130.7 mm x 101.7 mm and weighs approximately 560 g, light enough for a soffit or a standard wall bracket. A microSD slot takes up to 512 GB for edge recording, and ANR fills in any gaps in the NVR recording caused by a network drop. H.265+ compression keeps bitrates and storage demand down, which matters on a PTZ that spends its day moving and generating motion in frame, and ONVIF Profile S, G and T support means it will also drop into third-party VMS platforms.
