About the DS-2CD23166G3-I2UY

The DS-2CD23166G3-I2UY is the 16MP model in Hikvision's Pro Series (EasyIP) AcuSense turret range, using a 1/1.8" progressive scan CMOS sensor at a maximum resolution of 4608 × 3456. The extra pixels over the 12MP version in the same family are all in the vertical axis, and that is the point of the camera. At 4:3 the sensor sees considerably further up and down for the same horizontal coverage, which is exactly what is wanted on approaches, stairwells, aisles, forecourt pumps and any scene where the useful information runs away from the camera rather than across it. With the 2.8 mm lens the field of view is 94.5° horizontal by 69.9° vertical, against 51.1° vertical on the 12MP unit.

Frame rate is the trade for that resolution. Full 16MP records at 12.5 fps on 50 Hz and 15 fps on 60 Hz, stepping up to 20 fps at 4608 × 2592 and 25 fps or 30 fps at 4K, 3200 × 1800, 2688 × 1520, 1080p and 720p. For general surveillance, identification and evidential stills that is a sound balance, and where a scene demands higher frame rates the camera can simply be configured down a resolution step. Main stream bit rate is 32 Kbps to 24 Mbps with H.265+ available, alongside sub-stream and third stream for VMS and mobile viewing.

Low light performance comes from Powered by DarkFighter processing on the large-format sensor, rated at 0.0008 lux in colour at F1.6 with AGC on, with 850 nm infrared reaching up to 30 m when the scene finally goes dark. Smart Supplement Light regulates IR output so that a subject close to the lens is not overexposed while the background stays lit, which is the usual failure point on doorways and driveways. True WDR at 130 dB deals with strong backlight, supported by BLC, HLC, 3D DNR, defog and distortion correction, with a shutter range of 1 s to 1/100,000 s and a signal to noise ratio of 52 dB or better.

AcuSense provides the deep learning layer. Human and vehicle classification runs at the edge and can be applied to motion detection and to the perimeter protection rules covering line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting. Filtering alarms by target type is what makes event-driven recording and notification workable on a live site, removing the bulk of the triggers caused by foliage, weather, animals and passing headlights. Face capture and scene change detection are also supported, along with four programmable polygon privacy masks.

Audio is a built-in arrayed dual-microphone with environment noise filtering, mono, sampling at up to 48 kHz across G.711, G.722.1, G.726, MP2L2, PCM, MP3 and AAC-LC. This is a listen-only camera with no speaker or audio output. Where a site needs two-way talk plus an active white strobe and audible warning, the DS-2CD23166G3-IS2UY-SL is the equivalent 16MP unit with those functions and alarm I/O added.

The housing is metal cover and metal body, IP67 rated, with NEMA 4X anti-corrosion protection at Hikvision's moderate level, which covers coastal sites roughly 2 km inland and areas affected by acid rain. It measures Ø 138.3 mm × 115.4 mm and weighs approximately 750 g, with three-axis adjustment of 0° to 360° pan, 0° to 75° tilt and 0° to 360° rotation. Operating and storage range is -30 °C to 60 °C at 95 percent humidity or less, and the Y-series accessory range covers wall, corner, pendant, vertical pole and junction box mounting.

Power is PoE at IEEE 802.3af Class 3 with a maximum draw of 10.5 W, or 12 VDC ± 25 percent at 0.7 A through a Ø 5.5 mm coaxial plug with reverse polarity protection. Networking is a single self-adaptive 10M/100M RJ45 supporting up to six simultaneous live view channels, 32 users across three permission levels, and a full security set including 802.1X, TLS 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, HTTPS, IP address filtering, MAC host authentication and a security audit log. Edge storage takes microSD, microSDHC or microSDXC up to 512 GB with ANR to backfill recordings after a network drop, and NAS recording over NFS or SMB/CIFS is supported. Integration is via ONVIF Profile S, G and T, ISAPI, SDK and ISUP, with iVMS-4200, HikCentral and Hik-Connect on the client side.
