About the DS-2CD23166G3-IS2UY-SL

The DS-2CD23166G3-IS2UY-SL takes Hikvision's 16MP AcuSense Pro Series turret and adds the components needed to intervene rather than simply record. Alongside the 1/1.8" progressive scan CMOS at 4608 × 3456, the camera carries a white strobe light, a built-in smart PA speaker, an arrayed dual-microphone, line in and line out terminals and one alarm input with one alarm output. When an AcuSense rule detects a person or a vehicle where it should not be, the camera can flash the strobe, play a live or pre-recorded audible warning and fire the alarm output, all as automatic linkages configured against the same target-filtered event that triggers the recording.

That is a meaningful change in how a site behaves out of hours. Deterrence happens at the moment of the intrusion rather than after the footage is reviewed, and because the AcuSense deep learning engine classifies human and vehicle targets at the edge, the strobe and speaker are not being set off by foliage, rain or a fox crossing the yard. Perimeter protection rules cover line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting, each with target type filtering, and face capture and scene change detection are also supported.

The imaging side matches the standard 16MP model. The 4:3 sensor gives a 69.9° vertical field of view at 2.8 mm alongside 94.5° horizontal, which is why this format suits approaches, driveways, yards, forecourts and aisles where the scene runs towards the camera. Full 16MP capture is 12.5 fps on 50 Hz and 15 fps on 60 Hz, rising to 20 fps at 4608 × 2592 and 25 fps or 30 fps at 4K and below, with main stream bit rate up to 24 Mbps and H.265+ to keep storage in proportion.

Low light performance is Powered by DarkFighter, rated at 0.0008 lux in colour at F1.6 with AGC on, so the camera holds colour on ambient lighting before falling back to 850 nm infrared with a range of up to 30 m and Smart Supplement Light regulating output for close subjects. True WDR at 130 dB, BLC, HLC, 3D DNR, defog and distortion correction handle difficult lighting, with a shutter range of 1 s to 1/100,000 s and SNR of 52 dB or better. Four programmable polygon privacy masks are available.

Audio is a full two-way arrangement. The built-in speaker draws a maximum of 2 W with a maximum sound pressure level of 110 dB measured at 10 cm, and the arrayed dual-microphone includes environment noise filtering. Line in and line out are provided on two-core terminal blocks, both at a maximum amplitude of 3.3 Vpp, with input impedance of 4.7 KΩ and output impedance of 100 Ω, non-equilibrium, so an external microphone or an amplified speaker can be used where the built-in units are not enough. Codec support spans G.711, G.722.1, G.726, MP2L2, PCM, MP3 and AAC-LC with sampling up to 48 kHz.

Power requirements step up accordingly. The camera needs PoE at IEEE 802.3at Class 4 with a maximum draw of 18 W, or 12 VDC ± 25 percent at 1.34 A through a Ø 5.5 mm coaxial plug with reverse polarity protection. That is worth checking against the recorder before ordering, as an 802.3af-only NVR port will not carry this model. Networking is a single self-adaptive 10M/100M RJ45 with ONVIF Profile S, G and T, ISAPI, SDK and ISUP, up to six simultaneous live view channels, 32 users across three levels, and security covering 802.1X, TLS 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, HTTPS, IP filtering, MAC host authentication and a security audit log.

The housing is metal cover and metal body, IP67 rated with NEMA 4X anti-corrosion protection at Hikvision's moderate level, covering coastal sites around 2 km inland and areas affected by acid rain. It measures Ø 138.3 mm × 115.4 mm and weighs approximately 820 g, with 0° to 360° pan, 0° to 75° tilt and 0° to 360° rotation and an operating range of -30 °C to 60 °C. Edge storage takes microSD, microSDHC or microSDXC up to 512 GB with ANR, with NAS recording over NFS or SMB/CIFS and client support across iVMS-4200, HikCentral and Hik-Connect.
