About the DS-2CD23166G3-IS2UY-SL-B

The DS-2CD23166G3-IS2UY-SL-B is the black housing version of Hikvision's 16MP AcuSense strobe and audible warning turret. There is a certain logic to a black active deterrent camera: the unit stays visually quiet against dark soffits, anthracite cladding, black steelwork and shadowed canopies during the day, and then makes itself unmistakably known at night when the white strobe fires. On sites where the client wants protection without a row of white discs across the frontage, and on commercial buildings where the design detailing matters, this is the version that gets signed off.

Function is identical to the white model. The camera pairs a 1/1.8" progressive scan CMOS at 4608 × 3456 with a white strobe light, a built-in smart PA speaker, an arrayed dual-microphone, line in and line out terminals, and one alarm input with one alarm output rated at 24 VDC or 24 VAC, 1 A. Those outputs are driven as event linkages, so an AcuSense detection of a person or vehicle can flash the strobe, play an audible warning, trigger the alarm output, start recording and send a notification from the same rule.

AcuSense is what makes an active deterrent practical rather than a nuisance. Human and vehicle classification runs at the edge, so the strobe and speaker respond to the targets that matter and ignore moving foliage, heavy rain, insects and animals. Perimeter protection covers line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting with target filtering on each, and face capture, scene change detection and four programmable polygon privacy masks are also available.

The 4:3 sensor format gives a 69.9° vertical field of view alongside 94.5° horizontal on the supplied 2.8 mm lens, which is the reason to choose the 16MP unit over the 12MP model in the same family. It suits any scene that develops towards the camera: driveways, approaches, loading yards, forecourts and retail aisles. Full 16MP records at 12.5 fps on 50 Hz and 15 fps on 60 Hz, with 20 fps at 4608 × 2592 and 25 fps or 30 fps at 4K and below, main stream bit rate up to 24 Mbps, and H.265+ available.

Powered by DarkFighter processing gives a minimum illumination figure of 0.0008 lux in colour at F1.6 with AGC on. Infrared at 850 nm covers up to 30 m with Smart Supplement Light modulating intensity so close subjects are not overexposed, and 130 dB true WDR with BLC, HLC, 3D DNR, defog and distortion correction handles scenes shot against bright openings. Shutter range is 1 s to 1/100,000 s with SNR of 52 dB or better.

On the audio side the built-in speaker draws a maximum of 2 W with a maximum sound pressure level of 110 dB at 10 cm. The line in and line out terminals are two-core blocks at a maximum amplitude of 3.3 Vpp, with input impedance of 4.7 KΩ and output impedance of 100 Ω, non-equilibrium, allowing an external microphone or amplified speaker where the built-in units need supplementing. Codecs cover G.711, G.722.1, G.726, MP2L2, PCM, MP3 and AAC-LC with sampling to 48 kHz and environment noise filtering.

Power is PoE at IEEE 802.3at Class 4 drawing a maximum of 18 W, or 12 VDC ± 25 percent at 1.34 A via a Ø 5.5 mm coaxial plug with reverse polarity protection. The Class 4 requirement is the one specification to confirm before ordering, since 802.3af-only recorder ports will not support this model. The housing is metal cover and metal body, IP67 sealed and NEMA 4X anti-corrosion rated at Hikvision's moderate level for coastal areas around 2 km inland and locations affected by acid rain. Dimensions are Ø 138.3 mm × 115.4 mm at approximately 820 g, with 0° to 360° pan, 0° to 75° tilt and 0° to 360° rotation and an operating range of -30 °C to 60 °C. Networking is a single self-adaptive 10M/100M RJ45 with microSD storage up to 512 GB with ANR, NAS over NFS or SMB/CIFS, ONVIF Profile S, G and T, ISAPI, SDK and ISUP, and client support across iVMS-4200, HikCentral and Hik-Connect.
