About the DS-2CD23166G3-I2UY-B

The DS-2CD23166G3-I2UY-B is the black finish version of Hikvision's 16MP AcuSense Pro Series turret, technically identical to the white model and specified where the camera needs to sit quietly on the building. Black works on dark soffits, anthracite fascias, timber and slate cladding, black-painted steelwork and inside dark ceiling voids, where a white housing announces itself from every angle. On heritage and planning-sensitive sites, and on new commercial frontages where the design intent is a clean dark shadow line, the black option is often the difference between a camera being approved in the position it needs to be and being moved somewhere less useful.

The imaging platform is a 1/1.8" progressive scan CMOS at 4608 × 3456. Compared with the 12MP unit in the same family, the additional pixels sit in the vertical axis, giving a 4:3 image with a 69.9° vertical field of view at 2.8 mm against 51.1°. That extra height is what makes this model the right choice for approaches, driveways, stairwells, retail aisles and forecourts, where the scene develops towards the camera and a 16:9 frame either clips the head at close range or wastes coverage on the sky and the ground.

Full 16MP capture runs at 12.5 fps on 50 Hz and 15 fps on 60 Hz. Dropping to 4608 × 2592 gives 20 fps, and 4K, 3200 × 1800, 2688 × 1520, 1080p and 720p all run at 25 fps or 30 fps, so the resolution and frame rate balance can be set per scene at commissioning. Main stream bit rate ranges from 32 Kbps to 24 Mbps, with H.265+ keeping storage demands sensible at this pixel count, plus a sub-stream and third stream for VMS and mobile clients.

Powered by DarkFighter processing on the large-format sensor gives a minimum illumination figure of 0.0008 lux in colour at F1.6 with AGC on, so the camera holds colour on ambient site lighting rather than switching early to monochrome. When it does switch, 850 nm infrared reaches up to 30 m, with Smart Supplement Light adjusting intensity to avoid burning out subjects arriving close to the lens. True WDR at 130 dB handles strong backlight, and BLC, HLC, 3D DNR, defog and distortion correction are all available, with a shutter range of 1 s to 1/100,000 s and SNR of 52 dB or better.

AcuSense deep learning classifies human and vehicle targets at the edge, and that classification can be applied to motion detection as well as to the perimeter protection rules for line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting. This is what keeps the alarm load manageable in real conditions, filtering out foliage, rain, animals and headlight sweep so that recordings and notifications carry weight. Face capture, scene change detection and four programmable polygon privacy masks complete the event set.

A built-in arrayed dual-microphone with environment noise filtering provides listen-in audio, mono, sampling up to 48 kHz. There is no speaker or audio output on this model. Where the specification calls for two-way audio with an active white strobe and audible warning, the DS-2CD23166G3-IS2UY-SL is the same 16MP platform with those functions and alarm I/O added.

The housing is metal cover and metal body, IP67 sealed and NEMA 4X anti-corrosion rated at Hikvision's moderate protection level, appropriate for coastal locations around 2 km inland and areas affected by acid rain. Dimensions are Ø 138.3 mm × 115.4 mm at approximately 750 g, with 0° to 360° pan, 0° to 75° tilt and 0° to 360° rotation, and an operating range of -30 °C to 60 °C. Power is PoE at IEEE 802.3af Class 3 up to 10.5 W or 12 VDC ± 25 percent at 0.7 A via a Ø 5.5 mm coaxial plug with reverse polarity protection, over a single self-adaptive 10M/100M RJ45. Edge recording supports microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC up to 512 GB with ANR, plus NAS over NFS or SMB/CIFS, and integration runs through ONVIF Profile S, G and T, ISAPI, SDK and ISUP with iVMS-4200, HikCentral and Hik-Connect. Security includes 802.1X, TLS 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, HTTPS, IP filtering, MAC host authentication and a security audit log.
