Internet Protocol (IP) CCTV

IP CCTV cameras work by turning images into data and transmitting data through a network or internet connection. Because of this, the only limit to the resolution of these images is the bandwidth of your internet connection.

This means that if you operate more than one security system in different locations, you no longer need recorders for each place. Instead, their images are transmitted to one location and you can manage them from there - although you would need to have a lot of trust in the internet at all locations to do this. One great benefit to large installations is that IP CCTV runs on existing IP network infrastructure, unlike analogue systems that need dedicated cables, making an IP CCTV system quick and easy to install.

NVRs and PoE

Here at JMC we try to make all our products as user friendly as possible, so with that in mind we work with some great manufacturers like HIKvision or Dahua who have produced NVRs (network video recorders) with built in PoE (Power over Ethernet) Ports. What does this mean to you? Basically the NVR and camera only need to be connected by one Ethernet cable - directly from the camera to the recorder - and then the NVR will power the cameras. This can make installation extremely easy and cost effective.

Although there are organisations such as Onvif - which in theory allow IP cameras / Recorders / Software to communicate with each other - it is our recommendation that customers should always stick to the same brand. This rules out any chance of compatibility issues and allows your IP System to run smoothly.

What do you need for an IP CCTV System

To put together your own system you will need an IP Recorder (NVR), along with IP Cameras, you will need to join them together with Ethernet Cable and you might need Power Supplies for the cameras depending on whether PoE is an option - Finally you will need a Monitor.
