CCTV Cameras

We stock over 100 CCTV cameras from brands including Hikvision and HiLook, and we test everything in our Willenhall warehouse before we stock it. The right camera for you depends on why you need one, so start with whichever of these fits.

Match the camera to the recorder you already have. If it's a DVR (usually coax cables, the round screw-on type), you need HD over Coax cameras. If it's an NVR (network cables), you need IP cameras. Check your recorder has a spare channel, and that it supports the resolution of the camera you're adding. Not sure what you've got? Send us a photo of the label on your recorder and we'll tell you what's compatible.

If you only need a single camera with no recorder, it needs to be an IP camera. It connects to your router, records to a memory card inside the camera, and you can watch it live or play back footage from your phone. Look for a camera with a microSD slot, and you'll need a way to power it, either a PoE injector or a power adapter.

If you need several cameras, you'll almost always get better value and an easier setup with one of our CCTV systems, which come with the cameras, recorder and optional cables matched for you. Answer a few quick questions in Find My System and we'll point you to the right one.

Most spec is available across turret, bullet and dome, and you'll see plenty of advice that says pick on aesthetics. We sell roughly 10 times more turrets than bullets and domes combined, and there's a good reason for that. Turrets offer the best of both styles. They're easy to aim like a bullet, discreet and often vandal-rated like a dome, but without the IR reflection problems that domes can suffer from when dust, spider webs or condensation build up on the glass. That makes domes better suited to internal installs where those issues are less common. PTZs are a different category altogether, best suited to manned sites or very large areas, and they work alongside fixed cameras rather than replacing them.

Not sure which camera is right for you? Our CCTV buyers guide covers IP vs analogue, resolution, night vision, cabling, and UK legal requirements - written from hands-on experience as a specialist retailer since 2008.

Which camera style do you need?

As a quick rule of thumb: turrets suit most jobs, bullets are more visible and often chosen as a deterrent, domes are discreet and good for indoor or low-profile installs, and PTZs cover large open areas from a single point. The shape doesn't decide how far a camera can see, though. That comes down to the lens and night vision range, so check the spec on the product page.

Resolution starts at 2MP (1080p Full HD) and goes up to 8MP (4K) on analogue, with IP cameras reaching 12MP and 16MP at the top end. For most home installations 4MP or 5MP hits the sweet spot, giving you enough detail to identify faces at typical doorway and driveway distances without generating huge file sizes. If you want AI detection like AcuSense person and vehicle filtering, you'll need a compatible camera and recorder, and the widest choice of features is on IP.

Specs only tell you so much, so we've recorded real footage from many of the cameras we sell, day and night. Look out for the Sample Footage icon on a camera's image and you'll find the video on its product page, so you can see exactly what you'd be getting before you buy.
