Power over Coax (PoC)

HD over Coax CCTV Systems

HD over Coax systems, mainly based on HD-TVI technology, pair analogue HD cameras with a matched DVR and send high definition video down standard coaxial cable. If you have an older CCTV system already wired in, that is the key point: you can keep every metre of existing coax and simply swap the cameras and recorder for modern HD equipment, with resolutions from 2MP up to 8MP.

Each kit includes cameras and a DVR with pre-fitted storage, and cabling, power supplies and monitors are available as options if you are starting from scratch. If you are not sure whether HD over Coax or IP is the right route for your property, call us on 01902 213 999 and we will help you decide before you spend anything.

Why choose HD over Coax?

The biggest advantage is the upgrade path. Rewiring a property for IP means running new Cat5e to every camera position, which is often the most disruptive and expensive part of the job. HD over Coax removes that cost entirely for anyone with existing coax in place, and the picture quality at the resolutions most customers buy is much closer to IP than people expect.

Compatibility is another strength. Most modern DVRs support all the common HD over Coax formats, so mixing camera models or replacing an odd camera later is rarely a problem. Certain cameras also let you switch their output format, which helps when you are upgrading in stages around an older recorder.

You still get remote viewing. Like our IP systems, these DVRs can be connected to your network and viewed on a phone or PC from anywhere, with live view, playback and motion notifications.

The trade-off is at the top end. HD over Coax currently tops out at 8MP, while IP carries on up from there, and the AI detection features are stronger on the IP side. If you are starting fresh with no existing cabling, it is worth reading our buyers guide before committing to a format, because for a brand new install IP is often the better long-term choice.
